What is BIMI & how it works

How your logo appears next to authenticated email

BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) lets mailbox providers show your logo next to messages that pass authentication. You publish a TXT record at default._bimi.yourdomain pointing to an SVG logo and, for most providers, a Verified Mark Certificate.

BIMI only works on top of strong authentication: the domain needs SPF and DKIM aligned under a DMARC policy of p=quarantine or p=reject (with pct=100). Without that, providers ignore the record no matter how it is written.

How to use this tool

Build and publish a BIMI record in four steps

An enforced DMARC policy (p=quarantine or p=reject) with SPF and DKIM passing and aligned, a square logo in SVG Tiny P/S format hosted over HTTPS, and for Gmail, Apple Mail and Yahoo a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC) or Common Mark Certificate (CMC).

For Gmail, Apple Mail and Yahoo, yes: they only show logos backed by a VMC or CMC. A few smaller providers display a logo from a logo-only record, but coverage is limited.

As a TXT record at default._bimi.example.com (replace default with your selector if you use another). The value looks like v=BIMI1; l=https://…/logo.svg; a=https://…/vmc.pem.

Common causes are a DMARC policy of p=none, a logo that is not valid SVG Tiny P/S, a missing or mismatched VMC, or a sender with too little volume or reputation. Providers also cache, so allow a few days after fixing.

Yes. Publish a BIMI record under the subdomain, e.g. default._bimi.news.example.com. Without one, providers fall back to the organisational domain’s record.
